Each time someone
stands up for an ideal,
or acts to improve the lot of others,
or strikes out against injustice,
he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.

Creating lasting, positive change in ourselves, our communities and the world.

The idea for this program was set in motion in 2003 while I was living in Southern California and had suffered a shoulder injury.  As a result, I wasn’t able to practice yoga on the mat and I began taking classes at UC Irvine on the philosophies of yoga.  It was during the next few years that I became aware of the disharmony that has been created in our society today – the lack of connection to the self, to others and to the world around us.

In January 2006 I began teaching yoga and as a way of sending my students into the world at the end of each practice, I asked them to look inward, to thank themselves for their practice and to take their practice with them off the mat, being compassionate in thought, word and action.  The idea for this curriculum continued to build as my graduate work began and I realized that there is still such a gross misperception of what yoga is — yoga is not just a practice on a mat but it is a way of living one’s life in connection to all that exists.

Ripples Yoga LogoFrom this backdrop, the Yoga Ripples program developed.  By taking our practice off the mat, we create ripples of action in ourselves, our communities and the world around us.  Designed for people of all ages who want to create a life that encompasses self-awareness and connection, joy, creativity and mindfulness of how our thoughts, words and actions can influence society and the world, this program can be done in one-on-one sessions, small groups settings and by teleconference.

We believe that yoga and the Yoga Ripples should be made available to all.  Therefore, this program is offered on a sliding scale and we will consider all scholarships requests for low income participants.  Net proceeds from the sale of our products on the sustainable merchandise page will benefit low income participants and scholarship recipients.
